Barbara Ann Corcoran
Barbara Ann Corcoran (born March 10, 1949) is an American businesswoman, investor, speaker, consultant, syndicated columnist, television host, and author. She was the founder of The Corcoran Group, a real estate brokerage in New York City, which she sold to NRT for $66 million in 2001, and shortly thereafter , the company was sold. One of the show's original "Shark" investors, Corcoran has appeared in the entire 12 seasons of ABC's Shark Tank until now. Since February of 2020, she's signed 53 deals for the show, with the biggest being a $350,000 investment for 40% of Coverplay. Corcoran was the second child of 10 children born to an Irish Catholic couple of working class living in Edgewater, New Jersey. Florence Corcoran's mother was a homemaker. Edwin W. Corcoran Jr. Her father was constantly switching jobs throughout Corcoran's entire life. At times, the family depended on food delivery for free from a local, friendly grocery store. Corcoran states that her father was drunk who did her mother a disservice and sarcastic remarks. Corcoran was a struggle in school, and was later told that she had dyslexia. Corcoran entered high school in St. Cecilia High School Englewood after she had left her Catholic elementary school. Corcoran was absent from several classes in her first year and transferred to Leonia High School where she was an A student.
